First day of Fall

Today is the first day of fall and as I drove through the White Mountains the colors were in full bloom.  Many events are coming up in the White Mountain Valley - foliage is only the tip of the iceburg.  The Fryeburg Fair is from September 30 to October 6th.  The Fryeburg Academy Theater has different shows every weekend.  Murder Mystery train ride and dinner is in October.  Veteran's Day is quickly coming upon us and I already have the pleasure of hosting some veteran's and their spouses.

I will be hosting a Women's Pre Holiday Pampering weekend.  The weekend will consist of wine and cheese social at Water's Edge Art Gallery in Fryeburg.  After a hearty breakfast, Ivy will be teaching the art of silk scarf painting followed by pedicures, a rest and then off to the Fryeburg Academy for one of their shows.  The Country Inns of the White Mountains will be hosting the annual Cookie Tour and I am going to be taking part of that wonderful weekend.

Don't forget North Conway is home to Settler's Green outlet shopping for all your holiday gift giving needs.  And last but not least, the squirrels tell us country folk :) it will be a winter filled with snow for all the skiiers and snowmobilers.

I am still reeling from the excitement of my ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.  Flanked by family and friends I cut the ribbon.  From left to right - Aunt Dot, Pauline, Paula, me, Janice, Allen, Ann, Steve.

Thursday, September 6, 2012

Over the weekend the family got together to celebrate my birthday and we spent the day moving furniture and boxes to ready my living quarters for a visit from my father.  Janice and Allen have been staying in my basement owner's quarters. It is a garden level apartment with windows and a door to the driveway.

At 2:43 this morning Janice got up to go to the bathroom.  Shortly after she got up she heard the dinging of a car door so she peaked out the window. To her surprise there was an SUV backed in with it's hatch raised up. She, needless to say, freaked out. Allen then got up & they called me on the phone.  Jancie's Angie Dickerson came out and she took the picture above is of the license plate.  I called the police via my cell phone.  Keep in mind I have a 719 area code cell phone so the police that answered the phone is in Colorado.  They patch me through to the Fryeburg Maine police.  In the meantime I go downstairs and Janice and Allen come up.  At the other side of the door is an older man stating he's here to pick so & so up, wearing a cap and telling me to let him in.  When he reached into his pants pocket I was about out of my skin. I had no guests last night.  Few minutes later the police show up. After much conversation come to find out the gentleman is a driver for the Fryeburg Academy picking up the guest from China.  No one told the driver the guest stayed at the school last night with his son.  Everything calmed down but needless to say not much sleep for the weary last night.

Ribbon Cutting and Open House

The ribbon cutting ceremony and open house was last night.  What an evening!  It was great.  There were 60 people who signed the guest book so I am assuming there were probably 65 folks in attendance not counting the few kids with their parents.  Paula and Pauline came up early and between them and Janice and Allen and I the house had one last fluff and buff.  I had local business owners, other innkeepers, neighbors, friends, and family.  A surpise guest was my mother's sister Dot (81) her boyfriend (96) and her daughter Ann with Ann's husband Steve.  The oldest guest was 103 and youngest was 5 months.  The 103 year old was wheelchair bound and three guys picker up her and the chair and got her into the living room and she shared lots of local history.  Lots of tours of the house.  Everyone one must have enjoyed the food, there was none left.  Same with the Sangria!

The picture of me above with the bow on my head, I am flanked by my sister Janice on the left and cousin Ann on the right.

I recieved many well wishes via facebook, in person, phone calls, via flowers, cards, and e-mails.  Thank you everyone for all the help, well wishes, prayers, and support.
