Thanksgiving 2012

My first Thanksgiving spent in my new home, my dream, my inn.

There is an international high school around the corner from me with 160 students from around the world.  They do not go "home" for this holiday yet the school closes.  Some of the students go on local tours, have friends in the area, or have surrogate families in the area.  A group of 12 boys with two chaperones went to Portland for the long weekend and spent the time in a hotel playing games, swimming in the heated pool, and hanging around.  I invited this group to join me and Mike for dinner. I had two turkeys, a ham, all the veggies and stuffing, apple crisp and cool whip.  I had a blast cooking it, I ran out of oven space and loved having the kids.  What a wonderful group of boys.  From China, Vietnam, Spain, Russia, and Japan.   Maya had a blast - almost went into overwhelm with ALL the attention.  I look forward to more holidays with new and old friends.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE........

Wishing you a day spent with good friends, loving family and good food.

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES....
HAPPY EATING TO ALL - PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

HAPPY   THANKSGIVING   TO  ALL!

ADMIRAL PEARY INN
TO HONOR VETS WITH COMPLIMENTARY ROOMS ON VETERANS DAY
Fryeburg, Maine – Admiral Peary Inn will join hundreds of inns and B&Bs throughout the U.S. and Canada in honoring active and retired veterans with complimentary rooms in recognition of Veteran’s Day.  In a campaign called B&Bs for Vets, Admiral Peary Inn will join inns and B&Bs in opening their doors with complimentary stays for vets on November 11, 2012 so they can have a great night’s sleep in a B&B. Admiral Peary Inn, 27 Elm Street, Fryeburg, Maine will offer ALL its rooms to vets for the night.  Any additional nights book will receive a military discount.
“I are proud to join innkeepers across the USA and Canada in honoring active and retired military and veterans by offering complimentary room(s),” said Donna Pearce, Retired Senior Master Sergeant, United States Air Force, owner of Admiral Peary Inn. “I am thrilled that thousands of vets and their families will spend Veteran’s Day in a B&B, like mine.  It’s one small way to thank those serving in the military and their families for the important work they do” finished Donna.
The B&Bs for Vets program started in 2008 when Kathleen Penek, co-owner of the Gillum House and a handful of other innkeepers in West Virginia opened their doors to veterans in honor of Veteran’s Day. The program grew in popularity among innkeepers, and last year more than 900 inns in the US and Canada participated by offering free rooms to vets.  This year, the Professional Association of Innkeepers International will coordinate the B&Bs for Vets program as a way to help veterans learn about today’s B&B experience.
Veterans interested in reserving a room on November 11 are asked to call the inn at 207-935-1269 to make a reservation. Proof of military service will be requested.  Visit www.admiralpearyinn.com for more information on the Admiral Peary Inn B&Bs for Vets participation.  To see a complete list of participating inns and B&Bs in the U.S. and Canada, visit http://www.betterwaytostay.com/current-promotions/bbs-for-vets/.

HALLOWEEN 2012

Apparently I live near a funeral parlor that creates a haunted house on Halloween.  Cool huh?  This brings a boatload of people from Fryeburg and the surrounding towns to my street.  I had 400 pieces of candy AND RAN OUT!   It was like Halloweens when I was a kid in Dorchester.  EVERYONE dressed up to include the parents, and even the ones giving out the candy in the neighborhood.  It was a blast.  Maya didn't like the doorbell ringing so we spent the evening outside giving out candy.  She was is doggie heaven!  PS.  I got everyone's verbal okay to post these pictures.
